    Well, what can you say? I’ve always managed to find a video beginners lesson that clicked, and got me playing, for various instruments. This is not one of those. Cover 4 holes with your mouth, block 3 with your tongue? Deary me, keep it simple, blow, draw, bend. You don’t have to change your mouth shape much to achieve a clean single note. You won’t develop any bad habits. Tongue blocking? Just another thing to think about. Get yourself over to Max Tinkle to start with.

    So, where are the rest of your instructional videos on playing the harmonica, besides just lesson #1?

  • @a1930ford
    @a1930ford 6 років тому

    If you watch all of the videos for beginning harmonica, they each sort of start you out at various levels or places on the mouth harp. This one may seem tedious and very simplistic, but it is where a young musician on any instrument really gets their basic start from. Corny song or not, the lesson is not in playing such, but in practice, practice, practice so that you get the basics down and can grow from there. I am laughing a bit at the instructor confusing the such and blow directions every now and again in the video, but that is what real life is like and humans sometimes make errors that we all can laugh and learn from. I put this lesson into my own saved file of learning techniques and will actually be using it to practice the basics on as I learn. At age 70. I am determined to master at least the basics in learning to play well just for my own entertainment. Believe it or not, this video is more helpful than most I have coped down. I also give credit to instructors who take the examples and do them very slowly for the student to learn from. There are indeed different ways to hold and play a harmonica with the same results of hitting the notes correctly. Look at Roly Platt and you will see him hold his harmonica at a slight angle toward his nose, where most instruct to hold the harmonica tilted at and angle, but horizontal instead of at about a 45 degree angle as Roly does. Go figure, but regardless, the technique for learning the basics is still the same, regardless. Thanks for the video. .

    have subscribed to you & like your way of teaching me to play the Harmonica! Likewise if you desire to learn the best self defense tactics ever created, I teach people how to defeat the hands & feet w/my technique of like no other style will make you smile. It's not about the muscle hustle as is it's about fighting smarter not harder w/fighting on habits that a habit is a habit & once you form it you will have it. What you do in training is what you will do fighting & is why it's so important to develop only the right habits opposed to the bad or wrong ones. You can do it either right or wrong, it's your song. Just UA-cam me Dave Overbey & feel free where ever you might be. This technique is so simple it's logic & common sense as it should be & not the funny hocus pocus majical, mystical supernatural or acrobatic roundhouse spin kick tricks as tricks are for kids & results are for adults. It neither about breaking bricks, boards or sticks bull shit but is to teach you to defend in time of need be & not be taking your hard earnings while your learning little to nothing in time of need be. It's every mans duty be be fight ready in today's society as is it's gone crazy! L.O.L to a thumbs up. I'm now 64 only going on 34. Please read all comments I have placed below for more info. I am also known as Punchy Puncherallo & not Rocky. Thanks for you interest.

    okay so my harmonica is pretty different than what you have and we're describing. It has a total of 32 holes (16 rows with two holes on each row) and is divided in 8 sections. (the numbers start from 2 and go to 9). I believe the brand is Echo but it's also got M. Hohner on it as well. There is a C in the top right corner but I can only assume that is the key it is in. Any idea about this and whether I can still use this video as a way to learn?

      You have a Hohner Echo Harp which is a Tremelo harmonica Mr. Jody is recommending a diatonic harmonica. The tremelo harmonica is a nice sounding harmonica and has a diatonic scale only you play two notes at one time to have the tremelo effect, I have forgotten what scale difference each hole has. When the Saints go marching in sounds neat on an Echo harmonica don't give up, You will not be able to play blues and bending the notes on a tremelo harmonica but they have a rich tone and chords sound great. If you decide to buy a diatonic harmonica, I suggest you buy a key of C and don't buy a cheap one say less than ten dollars, I suggest something in the thirty dollar or more range like a Hohner Blues Harmonica and not the BluesBand harmonica which is a toy and only frustrates a beginner because it is leaky and hard to play. Marine Band is another excellent Hohner to play which are used by pros as well. Golden Melody also used by pros is the one Mr Jody plays and usually are in the 50 dollar range. Hohner makes cheaper harmonicas which are made in China and not Germany... The ones made in China by Hohner can be used by beginners such as Pocket Pal, but they are not as good quality as those made in Germany.
